BMX riding really took off in the early 80's and since then has grown to include freestyle and dirt-jumping in addition to the traditional BMX racing which is now an Olympic sport.
For racing, there's the Lake Macquarie BMX Club which meets on the track at Argenton, as well as clubs at Maitland and Terrigal on the Central Coast.
For freestyle, there are skateparks all over the place like at Wyee, Rathmines, Gorokan and Bolton Point.
And for dirt-jumping, anywhere that a bit of dirt can be piled up into a jump is all that's needed!
